UK festivals done the frugal way

Phone Fear: Conquered

By far the biggest concern among my peers at festivals seems to be losing their super expensive mobile phones and therefore losing contact with friends and not being able to find them in the arena. So, no friends, no phone, no fun. This is actually a pretty easily solved problem if you are willing to forego expensive technology for the weekend.

Cheap:
The, slightly more off-the-cuff option is you and your friends all chip in and getting a set of walkie talkies. They come in at around £79.99 so they’re more expensive than my bargain phone but still a lot cheaper and therefore a lot less painful to use than your average smart phone.

Cheaper:
GiffGaff do free sim cards and if you top up with just £5, you get 60 minutes & 300 texts. Enough to keep in touch with your friends over the weekend with no strings attached! Stick it in a £12.25 no-frills phone and you’re good to go! As a final point- cheap, basic phones tend to have fantastic battery life and if you are using it just to keep in touch with friends, it will easily last you the weekend. If you lose it, finding your friends might be tough but at least you haven’t lost a phone worth £100s.
